Awarded to the First Marine Division, Reinforced, for extraordinary heroism in action against enemy forces during the Guadalcanal Campaign, 7 August - 9 December 1942.  Forward echelon personnel of MAG-25 who flew into or served on Guadalcanal during the campaign were eligible for this award.
